Giving the Gift of an Estate Plan

December 8, 2020

Hi everybody. I’m Jessica Rafferty. I focus my practice in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, elder law and family law. Today, I wanted to talk with you about doing an estate plan. When you do an estate plan, you’re giving a gift to your family and that’s why I wanted to talk to you about it because it is around the holidays and everybody’s thinking about gifts. I say that for a number of reasons.

First of all, you’re giving a gift to your family because you’re becoming organized and you’re making sure that your wishes are documented and that is a huge gift to your family. Second, you are becoming a leader and a role model for your family. Most people recognize that estate planning is important. Most people also put it off. So, if you actually take the step and you do planning with me, your family is going to see that and it’s going to motivate them to also do planning which is going to help your entire family. Third gift that you’re going to be giving to your family is you’re going to leave your legacy.

In addition to passing along your wealth to future generations and when I say wealth, most people think of it as a monetary thing. You also can leave other forms of wealth and those are your values and your beliefs and your morals. So when you do planning with me, I’m going to give you the ability and the option to leave those things along to your family as well and you then no longer are just going to be able to have an impact on your kids and your grandkids, but you’re going to be able to potentially reach your great grandchildren and future generations. And I believe that’s a huge benefit of estate planning and one that is often overlooked.

So, if you would like to do some planning with me, don’t hesitate to give me a call, I would be happy to speak with you and answer any questions you might have before you come in, but please consider this as a gift to your family and I look forward to working with you. Happy holidays. I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy.
