Recovering from an Accident or Injury

Welcome to Legal Tip Tuesday at Quatrini Rafferty. My name is Joyce Novotny-Prettiman, and I’d like to talk to you today about what you might need to think about as you get on a path back to wellness after you’ve been involved in an auto accident or a work injury, and you’re dealing with that point in time where you are just stressed out and you’re very anxious about what the future holds.
If you have a strategy to move forward, I think you’ll get through this whole process much more easily than if you just try to figure it out as you go. So, I’m going to suggest as the first strategy that you get to the doctor and that you get the medical help that you need to get better. I’ve had people who really tried to tough it out, thinking they’ll just feel better if they give it some time, and time and time again I see that the people who do reach out for medical treatment and medical help get better more quickly than those who resist that idea. So, make sure that you get to the doctor and make sure that you’re doing what the doctor tells you.
In addition, you might want to talk to the doctor about some other wellness ideas that will help you feel better. I’ve had clients who really have had great results by adding some additional wellness strategies to their treatment plan. Think about things like acupuncture, potentially you’d like to start a yoga practice or meditation practice. Those things will all help you get back to feeling better more quickly.
The other thing you want to do is you want to reach out and maybe be able to talk to somebody about the problems that you’re having and the anxiety that you’re experiencing. So, reach out to a family member or a trusted friend and realize that you can talk to somebody about things that you’re going through. You may actually get to a point where you’re having symptoms that really are more like post-traumatic stress disorder and you want to talk to someone professional in order to help you through this process.
