Thank You Service Members

Hi, this is Michael Quatrini coming to you with another Legal Tip Tuesday. Right off the bat, right after this beautiful Memorial Day weekend we had, we want to say thank you to all of the servicemen and servicewomen who put their time, their energy, and sometimes their life on the line to protect our freedoms.
You know, I do Veteran’s disability work and so I understand and appreciate that just because someone served doesn’t mean that their service leaves them behind. At times, those physical and mental tools that it took, during their time in the service follows them home. And so, again, on behalf of QuatriniRafferty, I want to make sure I say thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the brave men and women who have protected us.

You know on that note, leading up to Memorial Day, I just finished a really great book about Churchill during the time leading up to America’s involvement in World War II. What’s incredible is that the entire book has Churchill begging, pleading, and waiting for the United States to enter into the war. And what’s very clear is that without the United States’ brawn and ingenuity who knows what would have happened to Europe during that period of time—and who knows what would have come of the United States and the fight with Japan. I’ve had a lot of time on my hands; it was the first time I was able to actually sit down and read a nonlegal book in a really long time.

Switching gears, I want to talk to you a little bit about Workers’ Compensation and Unemployment Compensation. Right now, many of you may have been laid off due to the COVID-19 crisis, and while you’re laid off, you’re probably getting the unemployment compensation that you deserve, plus the additional federal stimulus money per week. But at some point, that extra bonus stimulus and the unemployment compensation may run out. If your unemployment compensation runs out and you are not offered your light duty job back, you should be entitled to Workers’ Compensation checks. If that’s not done automatically, please call our office so that we can talk to you about which steps and what procedures may be necessary to get those checks turned back on.
